Therapies are considered to be alternative medicine to reduce and cure anxiety disorders. According to studies, anxiety disorders can be a learned behavior from childhood up to the present. Life experiences such as violence, sex abuse, experience bullying at school, poverty, divorce, difficult relationships and sudden death of a loved one can trigger the development of anxiety. These traumatic and life-changing experiences can still be remembered by the victims through nightmares or flashbacks hence making them anxious about it. Cognitive-behavior therapy examines the negative thoughts and feelings of the patients and studies the behavior or response of the patients to the situations that trigger anxiety attacks. The thoughts and not the external factors of the anxiety disorder are the focus in this therapy. And its objective is basically correcting these negative thoughts to be able to respond and react appropriately to any situations that trigger anxiety. Another anxiety therapy is exposure therapy. This is effective in the treatment of phobias, panic disorder and social anxiety disorder. It focuses on the external factors of anxiety attacks than in thoughts. Simply this is the opposite of cognitive-behavior therapy. Obviously from the word itself, it repeatedly exposes the patient to the certain situations or objects that can trigger the anxiety attack. The therapist may make the patient imagine the scary object or situation or he may be exposed to it in real life. Repeated exposure can help the patients feel that they have control over the situations or objects. Exposure therapy can be done alone or it can be performed with other therapies as well. Other treatments such as biofeedback, aromatherapy and hypnosis can also be done with cognitive-behavior therapy and exposure therapy.
